Hospitality venues get the go ahead

On Tuesday 23rd June the Government confirmed what everyone was expecting, that pubs, bars & other hospitality venues could reopen from July 4th if they followed specific guidelines outlined in their 43 page document.

Businesses had been calling for clarity on reopening for the past few weeks, and as the owner of a pub, I was among them. The hospitality industry is always hugely affected during difficult times, an example of this was during the 2008 financial crisis, and Covid-19 hasn’t been an exception.

Operators were left in the dark trying to find ways of keeping trading in some capacity over lockdown, for example at our pub The Stocks Hotel, if we could have safely sold takeaway beer to our customers we would have done. Because we weren’t able to do this we’re very happy to be reopening, and another positive of Tuesday’s news is that with a change in the rules on social distancing, over 145m extra pints can be sold before the end of the year, which is great news for pubs & bars.

While this is fantastic update, there are some restaurant and bar operators who are hesitant about reopening and the huge task of making sure that customers & staff are happy, safe and sanitised. After 12 weeks of lockdown, customers are really excited to get back to their favourite venues which is a huge positive, as the bookings will come flooding in which will fill out venues to their full capacity and give the industry a much needed boost.
